    Participants will learn the latest research supported methods for reliable native forage establishment and grazing management to maintain native warm-season grass vigor and animal performance through the summer.

    This workship will be an excellent opportunity for conservation professionals to learn about grazing native warm season grasses.  Dr. Pat Keyser from the University of Tennessee and ODA staff will cover the grazing portion of this workshop.  We’ll also cover pollinator habitat planning, site prep, establishment, and management.     The Ohio Sheep and Hay Day will be held July 13 at the Jackson Agricultural Research Station in Jackson, OH.

  5. Jul 12, 2019, 9:00am - 4:30pm

    The Ohio Forage and Grassland Council (OFGC) will offer a tour of sheep farms in Jackson, Ross, and Vinton counties on Junly 12. This tour complements the Ohio Sheep and Hay Day scheduled for the next day, July 13 at the Jackson Agricultural Research Station.

    Ohio Forage & Grasslands Conference Annual Meeting. The featured speaker will be Jerry Lindquist, who will be speaking on "Eight Years of Grassfed Beef Research at MSU" and "Multi-Species Cover Crop Mixes for Grazing and Soil Benefit." In addition, Kyle Smith will discuss "Fencing Geared Towards Grazing Cover Crops." Three producers will share about their operations of beef, stored forages and dairy. The program will be closed out with a "Hot Topics in Forages.".

    The OSU Eastern Agricultural Research Station will host the 2018 Southeast Ohio Sheep & Goat School beginning February 15, 2018. This six session series will span from February to November featuring presentations by state specialists and regional experts. From “Sheep & Goats 101” to “Finishing”, there is sure to be something for every sheep and goat producer’s interest.
